Off the trail, on purpose.
The trail only gets you started. After that it's routefinding with a map: over saddles, across scree fields and boulders, through deadfall and creeks, to alpine lakes that may not have been fished in decades.
Skills come on the move: fire in pouring rain, trout cooked on the coals, plants and mushrooms to forage, knots, homemade lures and traps. Nights are for the fire, the stories and, if you're lucky, the northern lights.
You don't need survival experience. You do need to be in solid backpacking shape.

What they said.
"Jordan is the ultimate pro at planning and reacting to changing circumstances in the wilderness… Finishing up the last night with northern lights was the cherry on top."
"Through boulder fields, snow, bushes, creeks, rivers, steep slopes, you name it and we plowed through it… This particular course is not for the timid or weary."
"I am 44 and had not done this kind of adventure for 15 years, but myself and everyone on the trip did great both mentally and physically."
