Skills, not miles.

A bush plane drops you at a backcountry airstrip and pack animals haul the heavy bags 9 miles to base camp. From there the week belongs to skills: catching and cooking fish, setting traps, finding the plants worth eating, processing game, and making fire in all conditions. We will bring a sheep or goat to teach you to process and preserve an animal!

Near the end of the week, anyone who wants to can hike out from camp with a guide and spend a night living off the land.

What you'll learn

Real skills, used for real.

  • FireFerro rod, fatwood, and how to get a fire going in the rain.
  • FishFly fishing, a willow stick and a rock, and cooking trout on the coals.
  • Traps & snaresHow to build them, where to set them, and what actually works.
  • Wild plantsWhat's worth eating, what makes tea, and what makes the best toilet paper.
  • Processing gameTurning an animal into food, hands on.
  • Tools & knotsAxe work, your multitool and the knots you'll actually use.
